Split-The-Pot for UNICEF

While we are planning a day of fun, we want to acknowledge what a privilege that is given current world events. We are not an organization that tries to raise money, so we would like to use this day to raise money for UNICEF’s efforts to assist refugees, specifically children, who are fleeing Ukraine.

Sid Naresh is a senior at Naperville North high school. He has had a stellar year in International and National table tennis competitions. Last summer he won the U.S. National U 17 boys Championship in Las Vegas. Following that he won a bronze medal in the boys’ team event at the Pan Am championships in the Dominican Republic. Sid had an amazing opportunity to represent the US in the first ever Pan Am junior games in Cali, Colombia. This multi-sport event was an exhilarating experience, where he won some hard-fought matches to bring home the bronze medal for Team USA. More recently Sid traveled to Metz, France and competed in the Youth Contender tournament. Seeded number 56 out of 79 players, he clawed his way through some intense competition to win a coveted bronze medal at this event. When he is not training or catching up with homework, Sid is most happy when playing with his dog, Teddy.

Nandan Naresh spent the first six weeks of his life in a NICU. He was a fighter back then, and continues to display an exuberant fighting spirit even now. He is a freshman at Naperville North High School. Having a training partner in Sid, helped them both train in their basement during the pandemic and emerge fitter and stronger when tournaments opened up last summer. Nandan played some excellent table tennis and won gold, silver and bronze medals at various events at the Pan Am Championships in the Dominican Republic. In the boys’ double events, Nandan and his partner breezed through the competition without dropping a single set! He later travelled to Portugal to compete at the elite World Youth Championships. Nandan carried his team to a silver medal in the team event. More locally, Nandan led his high school team to their fifth consecutive State Championship title.

Both Sid and Nandan truly look forward to being a part of A Pint for Kim. They hope to enjoy the lively camaraderie of all the guests, and are eager to play some spirited matches and kick some butt

Support Dogs

During Kim’s long stays in the hospital, one of the things that she looked forward to the most were visits from the amazing volunteers who bring their service dogs from room to room to visit patients. One of those dogs was “Angel” Dillon. This short visit turned into a long visit, as Angel’s dad, Tom Dillon, and Kim chatted away like they were long-time best friends. Angel and the Dillon family are a very special part of our lives now, and we are excited that Angel, her dad, and her other support dog friends will be stopping by to bring their love and affection to the blood drive.

Kids Coloring Area In Donation Center

The Princesses of Windy City Wishes will be in the airplane hangar coloring with the kids while parents donate from 12-4PM. Our teen volunteers will be there for the entire event as well. The coloring tables are right next to the donation area so that you can always have an eye on your kiddos! These generous Princesses also come to our Thanksgiving Weekend “Day of Giving” event to make gingerbread houses with the kids! You can visit their website if you would like to have them at one of your events!

And MORE...

We have a few more fun surprises that we will be adding in the coming days, so check back here! We can’t wait to see you on May 7 at J.A. Air Center for a full day of saving-lives and celebrating life!
